  There is a huge amount of information on the web about just about everything, including ticks and tick removal.  A lot of it is timely, useful and well researched.  A lot of it isn't.  Here are a few places to look for more information. 

The Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy:
     This reference manual for physicians has an excellent section describing tick removal and the treatment of tick bites in humans. 

Tick Talk
     A publication of Penn State University, tick talk is an engagingly well-written description of "what makes a tick tick".

EUCALB - European Union Concerted Action on Lyme Borreliosis
     Perhaps more than you really want to know, this is a comprehensive source for information on ticks and Lyme disease.
